Chimney Leaks
We Fix Dover’s Leaky Chimneys Fast & for Good!
Have you discovered or suspected a chimney leak? There can be several things contributing to a single leak, but one thing’s for sure: the faster you figure out how water is getting in, the better.
Water can be incredibly damaging and it doesn’t need much time to do great damage. So whether you know you have a leak or you suspect problems, there’s no time to waste. Call ChimneyTEK of Delaware’s team of Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)-certified chimney professionals to schedule an inspection. We’ll look at your system — top to bottom — and figure out exactly what’s going on and what needs to be done.
We’ll Start by Looking at the Most Common Causes of Leaks
- The Flashing — Flashing (sheets of metal) covers the base of the chimney and the area just around it where it exits the roof. Its purpose is to keep water out, but flashing isn’t always watertight. Bad installation, low quality materials, pooling water, and rusted spots can all cause flashing to fail, leaving you with a leaky chimney and roof.
- The Crown — The crown is the concrete topper on a masonry chimney, and its sole purpose is to keep the outdoors out of your chimney stack. It seals off the chimney and prevents rain, snow, sleet, debris, animals, and birds from getting down into the chimney. But when the crown cracks, water wears through the crown, or the crown fails to direct water away from the chimney top, leaks can occur.
- The Masonry — The masonry of your chimney stack is going to absorb some amount of water when it storms because both brick and mortar are porous. But the problem comes when that moisture causes damage, like cracks, gaps, holes, flaking, efflorescence, and deterioration. Damage causes the masonry to absorb even more water over time, which is when you have a real chimney leak problem on your hands.
What Causes a Leaky Chimney?
Leaks can also be caused by rusted-out chase covers (on prefab or factory-built chimneys) and missing or failing chimney caps or tops. If one of these is to blame for your leak, don’t worry — we sell and install the very best, and we’ll make sure your chimney is protected and your leak is stopped. With services like flashing repairs, crown repair, and masonry waterproofing, we’re Dover, DE’s permanent solution with premium products.
